DAR,
Alumni,
and Friends
have contributed $354,839.24 since
July 2005. THANK YOU!
|
Under the guidance of the
KDS Executive Director’s
Office and the KDS DAR
School Board of Trustees, a
major Endowment Campaign is
underway to generate needed
income to operate KDS in the
years to come. There is a
significant need for such a
campaign. A successful
Endowment Campaign will meet
the changing needs of the
school while providing
opportunities for growth in
the future. The school has
grown significantly over the
past 83 years; the need to
meet the educational needs
of the boys and girls of
Gunter Mountain has never
been greater.
The contributions made to
the fund are placed in an
interest bearing account.
The principal balance of the
fund can never be spent;
only the interest derived
from the fund can be spent
for the various needs of the
school. The interest from
the Endowment Fund is used
to supplement the Annual
Fund which pays for the
building repairs and
maintenance for the 240 acre
campus. The needs of such an
aging and historic campus
have never been greater.
Several of the classroom
buildings that were built in
the 1930’s and 1940’s are in
major need of repair and/or
renovation, and newer
buildings like the Burkey
Center and DAR Lunchroom
will need continual upkeep
as the years progress. In
addition, the Annual Fund
pays DAR employee salaries,
utility bills, insurance for
buildings and vehicles, and
pays school related expenses
for our students when
specific restricted fund
have not been donated. The
Endowment Fund is the
foundation that must
be built upon in order to
care for KDS in the
generations to come.
|
This Endowment Campaign
would allow KDS to
perpetuate the ideals of KDS
and take the message of our
needs to DAR members
throughout the nation, the
alumni of KDS, the
community, and our friends
of the school. Support from
friends like you will
hopefully encourage others
to come forward and support
this worthy cause. Please
help us spread the word!
Giving levels have been
established for the proposed
Wall of Honor (see below),
brochures are being
developed, and lapel pins
have been designed to
recognize donors. DAR
members, chapters, and
organizations are encouraged
to send their gifts through
their state treasurer in
order to receive chapter
credit. Please earmark your
gift for the KDS Endowment
Fund. Alumni, community
members, business owners,
Gunter Mountain residents,
and friends may send their
gifts directly to KDS DAR
School. The alumni are
encouraged to contact their
classmates for a
collaborative effort to
raise funds to meet one of
the giving levels; by doing
so, you will be giving back
to your Alma Mater and the
class year will be placed on
the Wall of Honor. Wouldn’t
it be wonderful to see each
graduating class beginning
with 1931 listed on the
“Wall” along with the Town
of Grant Businesses and
long-time community
residents!
